Facelift

The most common indication to perform a facelift are drooping cheeks, where the skin begins to sag and deepen the nasolabial folds. This treatment should also be considered when there are a number of wrinkles on the face or excess loose, pleated skin on the neck - in this case the shape of the face can be affected and the patient looks tired.

The purpose of a facelift is to restore a youthful appearance, to remove excess skin, and reduce wrinkles that occur most often on the lower part of the face. The treatment is most often performed in women, but recently more and more often in men.

Intervention

The facelift procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon pulls the skin upwards and towards the back, and excess skin is removed. The skin is sutured, and thin tubing is placed in the wounds. Cuts are positioned at the borders of hair or in the hair, and in front of and behind the ear. After healing the scars become virtually invisible. With this treatment facial appearance is significantly improved and signs of aging are removed.

It is not always necessary to do a full facelift. Sometimes it is sufficient to do a partial treatment: cheeks, forehead or neck.

After surgery

Stay in the clinic is usually 2 days. Symptoms usually are minor and do not require the use of strong painkillers. The face is slightly swollen and bruised, which should not arouse concern. At this time, cold wraps are indicated. The sutures are removed after about 7 days after surgery.

Possible complications:

  • the occurrence of hematoma,
  • infection,
  • nerve damage,
  • disturbance of sensation,
  • skin necrosis.

The most common complication is post-operative bleeding, which may lead to a hematoma under the skin of the cheek or neck. This results in a lot more swelling and bruising, and requires a revision of the wound and evacuation of the hematoma, which means another operation to be carried out as soon as possible. Following this large, transient bruising occurs, but usually no other consequences.

The ultimate effect of a facelift is shown after three months, and maintained for about 5 years. If necessary, the procedure can be repeated.
